Dr. Roger H. Emerson Jr.
Board Certified in Orthopaedics
Aufranc Fellow in Reconstructive Orthopaedic Surgery, Tufts
University
Dr. Roger H. Emerson comes from a family of physicians. His
father was an obstetrician and his grandfather a general surgeon.
"It was very natural for me to pursue medicine," says
Dr. Emerson. "What made me want to pursue orthopaedics
was seeing the excellent results my father experienced when
he had total hip surgery. While I was in college, my father's
hip became increasingly uncomfortable, and he was unable to
ski with the family or play ball with his kids. After his surgery,
he was like a new man."
Dr. Emerson completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth
College, his medical education at Yale Medical School and orthopaedic
studies at Harvard. He was the chief resident at Massachusetts
General Hospital and a fellow in reconstructive surgery at New
England Baptist Hospital in Boston. He is certified by the American
Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is an Associate Professor
of Orthopaedics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
School in Dallas.
Although born and educated in New England, Dr. Emerson enjoys
his practice at the Texas Center for Joint Replacement very
much. "Dallas is a very friendly city and people come from
all over the state to be treated by our staff and physicians;
it's very gratifying to be working with such fine people,"
he says.

Dr. William C. Head
Although Dr. William C. Head has retired from active practice,
he keeps a demanding speaking schedule and still does research
at TCJR. He also finds time to enjoy snow skiing in the winter
and trout fishing in the summer in Colorado, but says, "I
guess I'm a real Texan at heart."
Like all young medical students, Bill Head had many tough choices
to make while training to become a physician. One was what specialty
to choose. For Dr. Head, the decision was made easier by his
mentor, Dr. Charles Gregory, chief of orthopaedics at the University
of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. "Dr. Gregory showed
me the gratification you can get from orthopaedics. He become
my role model and guided me into orthopaedics. Patients come
to you in pain, and when you treat them, they can return to
their lives pain free," says Dr. Head.
He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas
and a medical degree from the University of Arkansas School
of Medicine. Dr. Head completed his orthopaedic training at
the University of Texas along with a fellowship in joint replacement
