Shoulder Replacement
Shoulder
and elbow replacements have been available almost as long as hip and knee replacements. They're less common, because damaged upper body joints are not as limiting or painful as weight-bearing joints.
Most patients with shoulder and elbow replacements have reduced pain and regain the ability to perform normal activities of daily living.
In shoulder replacement, the socket, or scapula, is scraped clean and fitted with a plastic mount, while the ball at the top of the humerus bone in the arm is replaced with a metal implant. Partial replacement in which only the "ball" portion of the shoulder joint is replaced is an option.
In addition to traditional total shoulder replacement, TCJR also offers "Reverse" total shoulder replacement for people with damaged rotator cuffs.
