Partial Knee Surgery

TCJR current uses a minimally invasive approach to partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement. This allows the patient to recover full use of his knee in 2-3 weeks. For more information, click here.

New Procedures

The field of joint surgery is rapidly producing new techniques to help ease arthritis in the aging baby boomer population. Some of the techniques are refinements of old technology and some are completely new. At TCJR we keep current with the new technology but are reluctant to experiment with your health. We are enthusiastic about procedures that offer success with little or no increased risk, but hesitate to try totally unproven methods without closer examination. Be sure to mention any new ideas that you have heard about and the doctor will give you his opinion about the method's pros and cons.

International Exposure

Trips for Drs. Emerson and Head in 2005-2006 have included Japan, Australia, Chile, Belgium, Switzerland, England and Italy. Surgeons from Finland, Brazil, Mexico, Columbia, Canada and many of the 50 states have visited TCJR to watch our doctors perform the latest techniques in joint surgery.

Research News

By Mary Jenson, RN
Our research staff has been busy all summer putting the finishing touches on some old studies and beginning some new ones. Coming in late summer or early fall are two drug studies, one on a blood thinner and one on a pain control drug. If you are having surgery in 2-3 months, look for Mary, Rita or Lynn to ask about participating.

We also have several implant studies in the works, including one for hips and two for knees. If you are a candidate, you will be hearing from us. Also we will be collecting data on muscle strength in knee surgery patients, before and after.

The Rapid Recovery Hip Program™ and Partial Knee Replacements use less invasive surgical approaches that enable certain patients to recover more quickly.
